Red Funnel Port

History

Red Funnel is the original ferry operator to the Isle of Wight and has a distinguished history spanning over 160 years.

We know too how important it is to provide a safe and reliable lifeline service to and from the Island and we are dedicated to meeting the future needs of the communities and customers we serve.

Here’s a snapshot of the previous work undertaken to redesign our terminal and land in East Cowes:

Red Funnel has been operating a vehicle ferry service from the East Cowes site since 1861.
Responding to the need to accommodate growth in demand, Red Funnel commenced the process to obtain consent for improved ferry facilities at East Cowes in 2015.
Planning permission was granted in 2017 for the expansion of the marshalling yard (Trinity Yard), which is currently in operation.
Planning consent was granted in 2017 for a new terminal building, marshalling yard, and a mixed use development.
2021 we were able to restart our East Cowes project, which had been put on hold due to the pandemic. Since resuming, we have undertaken extensive review and design work to ensure we deliver safe and reliable lifeline service for the community and our customers.
